Hey Guys! Row your friendly Registered Appearance Medicine Nurse here!
Today we are going to chat about appearance medicine, and how it can help you achieve a natural enhancement of your skin and facial features using anti wrinkle injections (commonly known as Botox or Dysport) and Hyaluronic acid gel fillers (commonly known as fillers).
What are these products and how do they work?
Anti wrinkle injections work by relaxing the muscle underneath the wrinkles in our face. this prevents the muscle pulling a crease into our face during movement. Not only does this soften lines and wrinkles but it allows the skin to have a break and begin to repair itself. The injections last between three to four months before they need re-treating and the dose can be tweaked to each persons preferences to preserve natural movement and expression. Skillful placement of anti wrinkle should produce a natural and subtle looking result!
Commonly treated areas include; Crows feet, frown lines, forehead lines, and lip lines. It can even help to prevent teeth grinding, excessive sweating, and tension headaches! its a very versatile medication in the right hands.
Anti wrinkle injections fall under two main brands. Botox which is the most widely recognized brand name for anti wrinkle injections, and Dysport which is a competing brand that has become increasingly popular over recent years.
What's the difference? In short, not a lot. Both of these products are made from the same protein, derived from the same source, using very similar methods. Generally the choice of Botox vs Dysport is one made for personal preference, some people find that Botox gives them the best results, whereas others find Dysport produces the ideal result for them. Here at Skin Plus Unichem we offer both brands to allow you to find the best choice for you.
What Are Hyaluronic acid gel fillers? These are injectable syringes of a gel like substance made from hyaluronic acid (which is a naturally occurring sugar that we all have in our skin). Hyaluronic acid attracts water into the tissue and hydrates and plumps tissue. As we age we lose tissue in our face that we can replace using these filler syringes. This provides structure and support for our face and prevents drooping and sagging. It can also be used to sculpt and enhance facial features such as lips and cheeks to help bring balance and symmetry to the face.
These gels come in varying levels of firmness ranging from very soft (commonly used for lips) to very firm (commonly used for sculpting the cheeks and jawline). A chat during our consultation will allow us to pick the right product for you depending on the results that you are hoping to achieve. Results last upwards of 6 months and regular re treating can help to extend your results. Filler can be placed in less than an hour and you are able to leave straight after your treatment, making it very convenient for people. Some swelling and bruising can occur but these are usually minimal.
Commonly treated areas for fillers include, lips, marionette lines (the lines from the corner of your mouth to your chin), cheeks, and nasolabial folds(the groves from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth).
